Research

My research (or perhaps better put, my scholarship) primarily focuses on issues and topics related to teaching and learning online. More specifically, I am interested in how people (both faculty and students) communicate in computer-mediated environments. As a result, a lot of my research has focused (and will continue to focus) on social presence. However, I tend to research, write, and present on the following:

Computer-mediated Communication
Social Presence
Teaching Presence
Learning Communities
Social Networking

Narrative / Storytelling
Digital Storytelling

Effective Presentations
Using PowerPoint Effectively
Lecturing Online
Pecha Kucha

Instructional Design and Technology
Preparation of Instructional Designers
Professional Organizations (AECT)

New Literacy Studies
